        Your friend has the formatting symbols turned on. There is a
button on the toolbar that looks like a backwards P with a T next
to it. Try clicking this button.
        If dots still show, click Options on the Tools menu, and then
click the View tab. Under Nonprinting characters, clear the
Spaces check box and click "OK".
