It's some comfort to hear of a fellow sufferer with NAV.
I first installed this s/w after getting my first PC three years ago.  ( A
MAC user before that).  I then got inexplicable hang ups and the techie
forums all said de-frag the HD.  (I'd only had the thing for a month for
goodness sake.)
Then I vaguely remembered something that I'd read in a PC Mag from some
reader who alleged that Win 98 and NAV didn't like each other so I removed
NAV and went somewhere else.
Funny thing was that although my hang ups on IE went away, it wasn't until I
got rid of the Norton Utilities altogether that the m/c settled down.
However, like you, I still get reminders via error messages that some
application requires some Norton .exe before it will run.
I could explore the Reg and delete something but I can't be bothered.
Well done for thinking it out.  I just had a lucky hunch.
