Frequently these weird little things are because of registry errors. While I
usually don't know how they happen, they will often go away if Microsoft's
(new) version of RegClean is used on the registry. I have been using it for
several weeks now, on a variety of systems, and have experienced no problems.
Of course, I always backup the registry *before* I do anything to it.

RegClean can be found at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/downloads/LNP195.asp?PR=W95&FR=0&A=T&T=
B&M=S&

If you have never signed on to Microsoft Support Downloads before, the above
URL may not work for you. In that case, start at:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/downloads/default.asp

...and click your way through Windows, then Windows 95, then Updates &
Utilities. You may be asked to register somewhere in the process.
