About two weeks ago both my wife's computer and mine started experiencing a
black screen of death. The screen goes black, with sometimes the monitor
in a low power state (not receiving a signal), and all keyboard response
fails. A hard reset is necessary to get going again.

These computers have been stable with no hardware changes for about a year.
I run XP Pro and she uses XP. They are networked together via mb
connections using a cable. (Linked to a DirecWay satellite high-speed modem
through a usb port on my computer.)

The only software changes that we both have made are updates to NAV, SpyBot,
and Windows (this was before SP2, using the online MS updater).

Is there a known virus that produces this result, or does anybody know of a
known problem with one of the Windows updates that might cause this problem?

TIA
