Hi Ron,
Just at the tail end of this.
I didn't see any mention of you trying different burning software, although I have to admit that from all reports
I've read ,it doesn't look good. The drive seems to have its troubles.
You may well be better off getting a new burner ,but may also want to try a different computer company .
$90 for installing a DVD drive is outrageous.
This is at the most a10 minute job - 4 screws and 2 connectors for the drive and
a few more screws for the computer cover. They sure have a nerve to charge you that kind of money.
I bet you could do it yourself.

Thanks for the help. I've tried a few different brands of dvds and the
results
were always the same plus I checked the Dell website to make sure I had
the latest firmware.
I'm going to have a computer company I've dealt with do the job so I
know that it's done right. While it's expensive ($90 +$50 for the DVD
burner), I know that I'll be able to burn dual layer dvds when he's
finished making the swap.
Take care.
Ron
