I may, just possibly, be becoming a curmudgeon in some respects,
but my own experience suggests that having already learned other
programming languages is of only limited help when attempting to
master VB.
There are really two parts to learning to program: learning the
logical structures of data and algorithms, which are largely portable
to a wide range of languages, and learning the specifics of a given
platform (OS + language). VB, more than any other language I've ever
learned, tends to intertangle these so that even if it teaches you
ideas that can be useful elsewhere, it can be hard to recognize them.
If it is your goal to become a programmer, then VB is a poor place
to start. Delphi would be a better choice.
If it is merely your goal to build a small application that solves
some specific problem for you, VB could be useful, especially if you
can get it cheap.
