No. When the Check Disk window appears, check the two options and click the
"Start" button. An information window will appear telling you it can't check
it now because it needs exclusive use of some Windows files and it can only
be done on a restart of Windows. Then it asks if you want to do it the next
time you restart the computer. Click "Yes". Now when you restart, and before
Windows starts, it will perform the XP version of a thorough 'Scan Disk' in
Windows 9x.
If you leave the two options unchecked and click "Start", it will quickly
perform the Check Disk in three phases. I would think the other method
(checking the two options) is more effective and would recommend doing it
that way.
