.
A few utube videos are using skype on the ipad to make calls. Not sure if that's an option for you.

Subject: [PCSOFT] App to use iPad as a cell phone?
I have an original iPad (hence limited to IOS 5.x) with a 3G interface. I haven't yet purchased a cellular plan for it, but am willing to do so IF it can do what I want. (If not, since I spend 95% of my waking hours where I have Wifi access, I can just go on ignoring the 3G part....)
My wife has lost much of her vision, but it's possible that she could use a keypad the size of the iPad screen, if it can be made to function as a cell phone. I have an impression that an app to do this was kind of popular a few years ago, but Googling "use ipad as a phone" these days seems mostly to find YouTube videos about using it with Google Voice, which I don't think is quite what I want...
So: Does anyone know of an app to get an iPad with 3G capability to function as an oversize cell phone?
