Hello Everyone,

Unlike Eudora, AOL and some other e-mail programs (clients), Outlook Express
(OE) does not store/save attachments or any other part of an e-mail in it's
program folder. Anything saved is done manually by you and saved to a
location of your choice. Until you delete a message, it is in that folder in
the message store folder on your hard drive. The location of the store
folder is determined by your operating system. In OE, go to Tools \ Options
\ Maintenance tab and click the "Store Folder" button.

Using Incredimail is a matter of personal choice. Ideally, as with all
programs, one should be familiar with all aspects of the program... how it
works, what it does, etc., and, as with Incredimail, how it may affect
others. As to how you view Incredimail... there's a ton of information, pro
and con, on the Internet. Simply search for it using your favorite search
engine. It's been discussed many times in PCSOFT. You can search the
archives here:

The following is from Cloudeight Information Avenue newsletter, 10/10/2003:

"Incredimail uses what is known as a Web Bug or "Web Beacon".
(http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/Web_beacon.html) Rather than
using a clear 1x1 pixel gif, Incredimail automatically inserts a blinking
envelope gif which the sender of the e-mail doesn't see (but the recipient
does). Rather than being just a link to the Incredimail Web site, it's a
redirect which passes through a script that extracts information about you
(the sender) and the recipient. This information is stored in a database.
What they use this information for is questionable. We don't agree with
tracking anyone's e-mail for any reason. Apparently Incredimail doesn't
agree."

What else can you do?... You can choose to read your OE mail in plain text
as protection from possible HTML hazards. In Outlook Express (OE) go to
Tools \ Options \ Read tab and check "Read all messages in plain text". If
you use MailWasher (free at http://mailwasher.net) to check your mail (in
plain text) while it's on the server, you can use this option selectively
when you know you're downloading an Incredimail or an unknown 'rich text'
(HTML) e-mail to OE.

Here is one program they say will protect you from Web bugs and other HTML
e-mail hazards. I haven't used it but it sounds good:
