It finally happened. My hard disk got corrupted and lost the Outlook.pst
file. As a warning to others, the corruption was apparently caused by a
possible flaw in Windows XP when too many files are written to a disk. I
don't know the full details, but did find some references to similar
failures that others have had. It is the MFT (directory structure of NTFS)
that gets "injured".

In any case, I lost my outlook data and had to go back to a backup I did
(fortunately) a week before. However, for some reason all of my favorite
folder settings were also lost. I can recreate them, of course, but was
wondering where these settings are controlled. A quick search did not bring
up any useful info. Can anyone point me to why I lost the Outlook
configuration when I went back to the backup file? I should mention that
because the disk was corrupted (still readable but not error free) I
switched the location of the outlook.pst file to my boot disk (the corrupted
disk was only for data files).
