I have an IBM thinkpad 390E with a 333MHz processor running WIN 98SE. I
tried to load a pcmcia Ethernet/Serial card but "didn't have the Win 98"
disk when I tried it. I exited out of the setup.

Ever since then when I boot up, I see everything load up (I turned off
the splash screen) until it starts to load the actual "win" files. The
machine now gives two beeps during the win load. Then when the
background appears, an error message appears that states that the file
MSNP32.DLL could not be found in C:\windows\system and some function of
Microsoft Network may not work.

I looked in C:\windows\system and found the file there, but it has a
folder icon instead of the standard white square with the MS floating
window in the center like all of the other dll files. I tried using
TWEAKUI to repair the icon. It changes it, but the next time I open up
Explorer, it is back to a 'open folder' icon.

Are these problems possibly related?

I looked at BOOTLOG.TXT and could not find anything to cause the beeps.
Where else can I look to find what is causing the error msg?
