I just downloaede the trail version of Winfax Pro yesterday and had no
trouble unsipping and installing it.

Don't delete the winfax exe file. First,  get *all* the updates for win95
and install them in the correct order.  I think there was a message earlier
here which outlined the order of install for the updates and add-ons.

Do the standard stuff, i.e. defrag the hd, remove unused & unwanted programs
via the proper uninstall procedures.

Once you have 'cleaned house' and upgraded win95, run your winfax pro exe.
It should work.
