I really like the Password Manager and Norton WinDoctor in Norton Utilities, although if anything in my registry needs fixing I prefer to fix each one by choice instead of letting Norton choose the fix. However, I hate the N protection status on the recycle bin, so I turn it off. I don't use the DiskDoctor nor the defrag software. The NAV works for me, but as you said...Norton IS a mixed bag...some of it good and some of it worthless.

Norton is a mixed bag. Some of it works well, and some is exasperating. I
found that the defragmentaion software is useless because it takes days (yes
days) to defragment one of my drives. The XP built-in (by Executive) defrag
runs in just an hour or two.

The antivirus seems satisfactory, and I really like the IE forms fill-in
component (Password Manager) - works much much better than the IE function.

DiskDoctor on an XP machine is of little use since it only seems to do what
CHKDSK does anyway. The registry cleaner seems to work well, but the
CleanSweep uninstall software takes so long to run that it is useless.
