Hi there,
I was at home this weekend using my wife's Dell PIII 600 with 56k dial-up.
It always connects at either 50666 or 53333. I don't really know if IE is
the culprit, but here are the events. Log on to her start page,
www.majorleaguebaseball.com, just to get on line, with no problem. Enter
marketwatch, in the address bar, followed by control-enter to take me to the
site. The page starts to load, when it gets to 19 items remaining it locks
tighter than a drum. Nothing works, mouse, keys...Control-alt-del does
nothing, four times eventually rebooted. Went through scan disk, etc.
cleared the cache, rebooted, logged on did the same entry, page gets to 19
items remaining and whammo, locked up again. Fine, figure the site is having
problems, and move on. Do other things for a while, tried to go to
www.lavasoft.de, page partially loads and locks just as before. So now I'm
thinking that IE is the problem. BTW, it's 5.01 with SP. Had too much
trouble with 5.5. I tried to repair with IE repair from system tools, said
it couldn't be repaired, re-install. Fine. Found the 5.01 set up folder
still on the HD, re-ran set up, it downloaded about the second half of the
download, reinstalled it's self, rebooted, scan disk, defrag etc...still
locked as before on those two sites.
Is this a problem with the browser or the site? If the browser, does any one
have any thoughts on how to rectify? I tried them both from my machine when
I got back to LA several hours later, with DSL, with no problem.
Thanks
Brad Loomis
