Hello Hayley,
It's called Check Disk in Windows XP. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
and right click the drive (C:\) you want to check. Select "Properties" from
the menu and in the Properties window, click the "Tools" tab. On the Tools
tab, for Error-checking, click the "Check Now..." button. A Check Disk
window will appear with two options. Select both options and click the
"Start" button. Depending on your system, it may tell you Windows needs
exclusive access to the computer and will perform the actions on the next
restart. If so, agree to that. If not, Check Disk will start immediately.
There are many things and combinations of things that can cause a slow
responding system. You didn't provide any information on your system but a
good starting point would be the Help and Support Center accessed from the
Start menu. Under "Pick a Help Topic", select "Performance and Maintenance".
A wealth of information can be found on the Internet using your favorite
search engine (Google.com is a good one). Searching for specific topics or
problem areas using different terms and phrases will usually provide good
results. Good luck.

I have just recently gotten a new pc with XP home. I know on the older pcs
you could scan the disk and data files for errors and fix them. I have been
unable to find this feature on XP. Could someone please help me as this
