IMAP is Internet Message Access Protocol.
From usual user viewpoint , IMAP server allows manipulate with mails in
server as they are
locally stored - sort them to separate folders, delete etc. - all in
server so if you next time
access from another computer - it is same as from previous computer. Of
course if you don't
download mail and stored them in local computer.
