Just to expand on my original question for those who replied

The documents to be converted are simple text files created by Notepad.
The main problem is that  consecutive lines (of 60 characters) are
converted to double spaced lines of  60 characters on the web page
whereas what I require is for them to be joined up into full length word
wrapped
single spaced lines.
