Frustrating Dial Up Networking problem - It must be some version of a
Chinese Water torture.

I replaced my hard disk and used the backup to restore the programs on the
new disk. Unfortunately the backup hadn't copied all of my files so I had to
reestablish a connection to an Internet Provider. I kept trying until I had
inadvertently generated number of connections that didn't work. Once I got
one to work, I deleted all the others and renamed the working one IP.

Now, when I dial into IP and request mail*, I get an error message that
says, "Dial up is already established to IP, do you want me to "Try to
locate the server on the present connection?" or "Do you want to hang-up and
dial IP?"

When I say try to locate on present server, it finds my mail. Then I get
another error message that says, "Dial up is already established to IP" do
you want me to "Try to locate the server on the present connection" or
"hang-up and dial IP4 (one of the ones I deleted)?"

Choosing "Hang Up and redial" in either case it just makes me sign in again.

I've searched the hard disk and the registry for a double IP and IP4 listing
without success. I've put my problem on a couple of bulletin boards without
a solution.

I'm using Windows 98, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 5.0.
The machine has plenty memory and hard disk space. I do use Netscape 4.6 and
different IP for another mail box.

While I can read my mail, this is frustrating. Any ideas on how to solve
the problem?

*Another confusion factor, I have to click on Read News to get the mail.
Clicking on Read Mail does nothing.
