Windows 95 can give you the ability to choose
which option you want to boot to. This is great
if you are still running Win 3.1 or some other
operating system and need to switch between the
two.
>I have talked to a tech and posted on a web BB

>If I do this, will I lose all the settings and

I'm not sure why the tech seems to think
reinstalling will solve this problem. It will
solve your problem by overwritting everything,
but you will lose any additional programs that
may have been added to the registry.
If you are comfortable with making some changes
to a startup file, you can change this WITHOUT
reinstalling Win95!
When the computer starts up:
1.) Open My Computer (icon is usually in the top
left corner of the screen)
2.) From the menu bar, select VIEW - OPTIONS -
VIEW (a tab on top).
3.) Select Show all Files and unclick Hide MS-DOS
file extensions.
4.) Select the Start button, Programs, Windows
Explorer.
5.) Select the C:\ in the left window and find
MSDOS.SYS in the right window.
6.) Single-click the file, then RIGHT-CLICK
(use the right mouse button) and select properties.
7.) On the bottom of the properties screen are
the attributes. Remove hidden and read-only,
click on Apply, then OK.
8.) Select Start, Programs, Accessories, Notepad.
9.) Select File, Open, change to Show All Files,
and find MSDOS.SYS and select it and ok.
10.) There will be an [Options] section. (now
bare with me, I don't remember all the switches)
11.) Mine reads (I start Win95, and am on a
network):
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
Network=1
If you are not on a network, the Nework line
should equal 0 instead of 1.
You will probably also have ones like
BootMenuDefault or BootMenuDelay. Just put a
";" (no quotes, just the semi-colon) in front
of the others.
12.) Select File, Exit and Yes to save changes.
Now reboot. If it does what you want, then go
back and set the file attributes back to
read-only and hidden.
Let me know if I can be of any help, or if I've
missed any steps. This is a great list and
crew, so you'll get good help.
Best of luck!
