I would like to expound on a comment made recently on this list regarding reformatting and reinstalling. I am going through the agony of trying to reinstall everything I recently lost because I took my computer in to the service department where I bought my computer. The computer is three months old and my Word 2000 program had frozen, I was getting "systems resources dangerously low messages" and after 45 minutes with a tech support person by phone who could not find my problem, I took it into the local service department. BIG MISTAKE!

I learned a real lesson from this experience. I had everything written down to give the service department including all the error messages I was receiving. They even commended me for having documented the problems. BUT - I thought they would uninstall the Word 2000 program, reinstall it and reset all the settings that the tech guy had had me change by phone. (I was getting Memory Manager not detected after the phone call). I was horrified to find out when I got it home that they had Reformatted and done a VERY limited Reinstall of programs that were on my computer when I bought it. They called it "returned it to factory specs).

So - I believe that the technical support people are doing that to computers because it is the easiest and quickest way for them to
move computers in and out, rather than trying to detect the problems and fix it. Certainly that is what they did to me. Sure wish I had uninstalled Word and reinstalled it again. But - then I did not know what to do about the Memory Manager message, so.... Here I sit trying to remember what all I had on it and download all those programs I lost. (I did have backups of my personal files, but not of all the downloads.)

A word to all who are not computer geeks - Try everything you can before taking it to a shop. Like - get help from PCSOFT.
