This list and others often recommend programs like Spyware Guard, Spyware Blaster, AdAware and Spybot to combat spyware and adware.  However, I note that Norton Antivirus and I believe McAfee are claiming their antivirus software can defend against spyware and keystroke logging software.

So, the question is this:  Is Norton and/or McAfee adequate against these threats, or are the other programs still a good idea?  Discussion folks?
