First, I would conduct a search for the following files on your hard drive,
MFC40.DLL, and MSVCRT40.DLL.  Usually they are located in the Windows\System
directory.  I would then rename them to MFC40.BAK, and MSVCRT40.BAK.  Then I
would check to program you install for these files and copy them from you
source disk to the Windows\System directory, or if required, reinstall the
application if files are in compressed library.

Different programs install these files, and sometimes it causes problems.
Have seen with MS Office, and CD recording software, and Browsers cause
these, and others, and there is allot of information on these type of
problems in the MS KB.
