A customer's WinME machine boots, loads to desktop, then at the very last
minute displays the message:
'Explorer has caused an error in <unknown>. Explorer will now close. If
you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer'
(Great kidders, those Redmond people)
I've cleaned out all it's temp stuff, scandisked it, defragged it and purged
the startup files with msconfig.
I've checked out the run and runonce keys in the registry, and checked out
win and sys inis for possible errors.
I've downloaded the latest virus defs and run a full scan with Norton.
None of the above has changed anything.
I've done a Google check of the internet for possible solutions, but found
nothing of relevance. MicroSoft's closest match involves opening the Control
Panel and getting the above message, but that's not a factor here, in this
case it's happening without any user intervention.
It's worth noting that, even though the message declares that Explorer will
close down, the computer appears to function quite normally after the
message is 'Okayed' away.
Suggestions would be very welcome.
TIA
Ian Porter
