Hello
Back in June someone asked for instructions on how to copy the
contents of an old hard drive to a new drive. I kept a copy of the
request and the response because I have a similar requirement.
The response, by Alan Thompson, to the request for instructions
assumed that both systems were running Win 98 as an operating system
and used a null modem cable to connect the two computers.
In my case the old system is running Win95 and the new system is
using WinME. Can the transfer of files using a direct cable
connection still be done even though the operating systems are
different? I only want to transfer about 3 gigs of data files; no
executable files.
Also, when I purchased the null modem cable the salesman asked me if
I wanted a 9 to 25 or a 25 to 25 cable. I took the 9 to 25
version. Will this work?
Particulars:
Old Computer: Gateway 486DX running at 83MHz with Win95 operating
system and one 5.6 gig hard drive and one 1.2 gig hard drive.
Newer Computer: Dell L800r running at 800MHz with WinME operating
system and one 20 gig hard drive.
Thanks...
Loy
