Here's one guy that's had a parallel printer for over a year now and not one
iota of problem. I have a UMAX 1200P - same as one my mother-in-law has.
Like me, she's been an owner for more than a year and not one bit of
problem. I run WIN95 and she runs WIN98. My son has a Canon and same thing;
no problem. Of course a USB is a lot faster but not many people have a new
enough motherboard that provides a USB connector. Similarly, a SCSI would be
faster again but most people are working on a budget and don't need that
expense - not to mention the sometimes tricky setup of SCSI devices.
I don't have any suggestions to help Carol out with the original question on
TWAIN driver recognition but I just wanted to say to Carol and others that
they don't have to mumble with embarrassment that they bought a parallel
port scanner. Mostly, they work and work well.
