Thanks for your input on this.
Prior to using OE (3 years now), I was an AOLian for 9+ years. I have never
used Eudora.
Unless it is something I have yet to figure out, OE does not automatically
save attachments. We have to do that each time separately. We can turn off
or strip html/rich text posts so that we only receive plain text.

As I said, I don't know where OE stores embedded and attachment
files.  I've never used it.

Eudora has 2 subfolders in its Program Files folder.  One is "Attached" and
the other is "Embedded".  All attachments go into the Attched folder, and
all items embedded in the body of a formatted email go into the Embedded
folder.  Nice and simple.  So that you can if you wish view all attachments
and embedded files separately. As embedded files open along with the email
itself, this must be a security risk, especially as now it appears there is
a way to include viruses in graphic files.  Nasty.

(Incidentally, Microsoft have very recently come out with another XP patch
for patching the .jpg security hole. I think this patch is subsequent to
SP2. They rate it as high security. It patches a risk in IE, so I doubt
that it affects any email "embedded files" risk.)

But I digress.

To get back to the question, I've no idea where you'd look for these
embedded files in OE. Presumably there must be a folder somewhere for them,
but OE moves in most mysterious ways which I've never been able to fathom
out. Someone else will have to answer that one.

You can set the options in Eudora, and presumably in OE, to delete all
attachments automatically when you trash any email, but this option is
inconvenient as it means you have to separately save any attached files you
want to keep.  All too easy to inadvertently delete some important
attachment, methinks.

Sorry I can't be more specific with this one. But it is important for all
readers who have their email software set to receive formatted text to
realise the security risks inherent in this practice.
