I would appreciate that, if someone knows how. The 10 point Arial is a
little too small (I'm 64) and the 11 point Arial is too large - in your
face - a big difference in size.
A different font in 10-point, such as Trebuchet is very slightly larger and
darker than the Arial, but not so large that you feel it is screaming at
you. The slight difference makes a big difference to me.
I have searched the registry, but I don't know what name to search for.

It's possible but I don't recommend changing that font, because if you do
it will change the font in notepad and other plain text editors. Also the
font that is the default has been chosen by experts to be a very readable
font and any other font won't appear to be as clear and distinct as the
default. Are you sure that that you are using the default font? Check
another computer's font to see if yours is the same.
If you still want to change it perhaps one of the other experts on PC Soft
will show you how.
