In my continuing saga to make my computer run according to Hoyle, I resubmit
this little bit. When I try to shut down, I sometimes get one of those
messages that program is not responding with the header reading INDEXING.
Have had many occasions to use the ALT-CTRL-DEL scenario, but have never seen
such a program running. Any thoughts on what INDEXING is, and how to get
this thing to shut down properly?

If it helps in the diagnosis, when this happened last night, the computer
then hung on "Windows is shutting down" screen and I had to pull the plug,
literally. Have established that there is a display driver bug, that has yet
to be resolved, for which neither HP or Microsoft seems to have a patch. I
have a Pavilion 8380 running Win98. Can't seem to find anything that would
point to an answer at either HP or Microsoft web sites.

TIA
