There are various ways to figure out if you have a modem, but one of the easiest is also the most low tech. Look at the back of your computer and see if there is a phone jack connection. Make sure it is not the larger jacks for a network connection but ones for a phone.

This sounds great! But it says it requires a "dial-up-modem" and I don't know if I have that or not. I have used both CABLE and DSL (currently cable), and I have a phone jack nearby, but I don't know if I have a dial-up modem and if so, I don't know how to access it.

Gregg,
I used WinFax for years (from windows 95) until it gave up on me in XP. Then
tried the freebees, all of which I found lacking. I stumbled upon a little,
but powerful, fax application called Essential Fax at www.essentialfax. It
is an east set-up, with a number of bells and whistles, including auto
phone card dialing capability, attachment capabilities and more, and is
quite inexpensive at $19.95. Best of all you can try it free for 30 days.
You don't like it, you don't buy it. I have no interest or association with
this product or the company, but seeing what is out there at much higher
prices, I am still very impressed with it after over a year of use.
