I would read article Q180105 at the MS Knowledge Base,
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp

Among other things, it states that there is some "inaccurate information" in
the Help files about these topics (File formats that are supported in
linking, embedding, etc.). I have not used Access 2000 a great deal, but I
have had inconsistent results when trying to blend the 97 and 2000 formats.
I found it best to choose one or another and stick to it. Could there be an
ODBC data source or driver problem involved? If that article does not have
your answer, I would search some more in the Knowledge Base. If your answer
is anywhere, it's most likely there.
