FoxIt is great - it's very, very fast.
Another excellent pdf reader is the FREE PDF X-Change Viewer by Tracker Software. It allows you to highlight text, add "post-it" notes, insert text boxes, copy text to the windows clipboard for pasting into a word processor (unless the document itself blocks this - some documents do). I got it last year from a university networking class, but you can also download it from the web for free.
You can set "pdf" File Types to always open pdf files (from I.E. or W.E.) with this viewer by default instead of Adobe and it won't continuously annoy you about "phoning home" for "updates" in order to open something like Adobe does - X-Change just opens it. Installation may give you the option of opening all pdf with X-Change from this point on, but I don't remember for sure.
If not, then after installing it, open any folder with Windows Explorer (not I.E.) choose / Tools / Folder Options / File Types (tab) /, scroll down to the "PDF" file type and use the "Change" button to choose "PDF X-Change viewer from "Recommended Programs" or "Other Programs."
If PDF X-Change viewer is not listed there, then use the "Browse" button to locate PDFXCview.exe (in "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\pdf-viewer\PDFXCview.exe") for PDF X-Change Viewer.
Or you might want to choose FoxIt as your default reader (nothing beats it for speed - it's small and lightning fast) and you can still select text with it (by changing the mouse pointer on the FoxIt toolbar) and just use PDF X-Change viewer if you need to highlight or annotate the document.

I don't think it's built into IE, but when you install Acrobat Reader (or,
I think, the preferable Foxit) the installation should give you the option
of installing it as a BHO (Browser Helper Object). It will then become an
integral part of IE.
I can't say for certain about Foxit, as I don't recall going to any
websites where I've ever wanted to open a pdf file.
