Holding it down or tapping it produces the same results because when
you hold the key down, it automatically repeats itself (this is
sometimes configurable in the bios).  I suppose it could wear it out
faster by tapping it alot, but I seriously doubt that the few times
this is required would realistically impact the longevity of that
particular key.
So, to sum it up, do what works for you :)
