I too had a similiar, if not identical problem. I tried numerous
suggestions, many of which were novel. Check previous posts by the
undersigned to see the variety of suggestions posted.

I worked on this problem for quite some time but no suggestion  worked for
me. I ended up reformtting and reinstalling. Now everything works and works
great. However, I encourage you to try the posted sugggestions before going
the reformat/reinstall route. Good luck.
