I have no idea if this will help *anyone*, but I, too, was having problems
getting my chosen view to stick (although I only cared about one folder).

I ran RegClean about a week ago for the first time, and I have noticed since
then (she said, crossing her fingers) that the last time I pressed CTRL or Shift
when I exited that folder, it HAS stuck.

Who knows? Maybe RegClean will help.
