What you downloaded was the Java runtime support for Java applets. This is
NOT JavaScript. You need to install this by running the program IF you don't
already have Java enabled in your browser, AND if you want Java support. If
you don't have the Java support, some websites will not display properly. I
have it on my own computer, but the choice is yours.

Dear Peter, Don and all other interested parties:
I downloaded http://www.java.com/en/ , and when I went there I hit the
"Download" button. I can keep it on my computer, no problem. However, can
I take the "java" icon off of my desktop? Is there any need to keep it on
there?
Thanks in advance,
Karen T.
