> I have tried three recommended fixes for the Windows 98 shutdown problem
and none seem to work. When you go to Start and Shutdown, the screen
freezes at the Windows 98 logo screen on several IBM Thinkpads 600E models
in my office. I end up physically shutting down the laptop but in the
morning, when I go to turn on the laptop it goes through the Scandisk since
the laptop was not shut down properly.

anyone out there that has a fix that actually works until I migrate to
Windows 2000 which I have been told is alot more stable.

Ok since you have tried the recommended fixes for the OS, your problem may
not be related to that. I would if possible check your bios settings, it
sounds like that would be your next best bet. I don't know what type of
laptops you have I also know getting to the bios on some ThinkPad's is no
fun and the bios have limited function on the early models.

Also since you have these at work are there any that are shutting down
properly, see if you can find out if anything is different about them as far
as programs that may be on one and not the other . Also I don't remember if
this was suggested go to Ctrl+Alt+ Del and remove all of the programs except
for explorer and Systray. Try to do a shut down then. If it goes you know it
is with one of the programs. Also in the control panel look at the power
management and make sure that is set for Shutdown.
