  None of the four machines I use regularly has more than 512MB of RAM 
currently; only one of them is bogging down in ways which tell me it would 
be much happier with more.  (And it probably wouldn't if I could get FireFox 
to run as several smaller processes instead of one humongoid.)  1gb of RAM 
should be plenty for most people for several years to come.
