If you are sure you can't get it to boot correctly by "fixing" that part,
I would try to access the drive as a "data" drive in another machine
set up as a Master (alone) on it's own ribbon cable. Then you can
"start" to determine if it will function.
If it is/was using a software "solution" for no BIOS LBA support,
this can become another obstacle.
The Operating System (and BIOS) on the second machine has
to support the drive and File System of the drive you are testing...

i have a friend that his hard drive went out and he needs the info off it.
is there a porg.out there to recover this info. the drive gets to the screen
were it want u to pick ether safe mode or com.prompt.mode. but it frezes
