Hi Dianne,

There are several solutions to this.
I have had this happen with Rogers numerous times.
Email but no browser or the browser was OK but no email (OE)
A temporary server outage may(actually, will) cause this.

OK,we'll try some things:
General instructions:
A lot of times it may be as simple as resetting the modem.
Switch everything off -meaning,logoff and shutdown.Unplug the power to the modem.
usually it's a small adapter plugin.
After a few minutes plug the adapter back into the 120V outlet and let it set up.
Then switch on your computer and logon.
In a lot of cases that resolves it.
Check the manual as well,it may give different instructions.

If not, try IPConfig.
Official description from Microsoft is here
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=true
However a nice tutorial is here:
http://www.ncsu.edu/resnet/windows/ipconfig/

Rogers has a selfhealing program you could download.
Check it out after you've got IE working again :)

Since this happened when you were installing Norton AV,only parts of it may be
installed.
So the first thing to do is uninstall Norton AV and remove all its components.
If necessary use a registry cleaner to remove any residue.
Then do a fresh install. Then make sure you allow IE access to the internet.
Actually there is a Removal tool for Norton http://tinyurl.com/yca3h5

Also go to your settings in IE :
Tools > Internet Options > Connections>LAN Settings and tick Automatically detect
settings.
Check the Rogers manual for settings that are specific for the location and
connection, if different from what I described.

BTW,you could try the installing and cleaning of Norton before you have an
internet connection,by downloading it on your own computer, save it to an USB
pendrive or similar, then transfer it to your friends computer and install it.
The same for the Rogers SelfHealing program.

Hope this helps a little.

Peter.

> Working on a computer for a friend, she is running Windows xp home, sp2. Uses Outlook Express for mail, connected to the internet by DSL Cable (Rogers). Suddenly, her browser (IE6), but tried it with IE7 as well, will not access the internet. Her e-mail is flowing as per usual, the LAN connection shows as enabled. I tried with and without the Windows Firewall... no difference. At the moment there is no anti-virus in the machine, it was being re-installed when the glitch occured. It was Norton at the time.
> I thought that perhaps the problem was with IE6 and 7, but it does exactly the same thing with FireFox.
