XP needs a LARGE amount of work to fix it's bad behaviour. And,
incidentally, I don't know that throwing in the SP1 pack does much good,
from the moans I've seen about it on the net.
I've just supplied two new Compaq D380 1.7 Ghz machines to a local
businessman, running prepackaged XP Pro, and frankly, their performance
embarrasses me. So I don't intend to make them any worse with SP1.
However, the new machines replaced two P100 units, so he thinks they're
great.
And re ViewFix, I know what you mean about finding time to install it, but
do try it - it does work very well. All you need to do is run the exe to
install it, then start it from the start menu. Select how you want folders
to display, then hit Apply and Close.
You don't need to reboot, but if you do, ViewFix will be in the Systray (or
whatever it's called in XP) and after that it'll keep your folders the way
you want them.
