I use PC-Cillin 98 OEM as the real time antivirus scanner, on Win98.
Installation went smoothly, and it works quite fine.
The real time scanner called iomon98.exe is loaded at bootup from the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
it loads without any flags, or switches.

On boot, iomon98 loads up and works very well. It is however supposed to put an icon in
the system tray, but the icon does not appear at startup.
Only after I open some MS-DOS window, the icon appears. (and continue to be there, also
after I quit the ms-dos window). There is no reference to anuything related to pc-cillin or
Trend-Micro in the dosstart.exe, config.sys, or autoexec.bat.

If after boot (when the icon is still not there), I end the iomon98.exe task, by using the ctrl-
alt-del, and then after the task has ended, I execute iomon98.exe again, it will load up and
activate, with the icon in the system tray as needed.
I'm curious to know what causes this icon to appear only in such situations, and not to
appear directly, on bootup (it claims to appear on bootup).
I will look forward to any suggestion or solution. As my question is more a result of
curiosity, I'm less interested in work-arounds (such as loading it from the startup folder,
instead of loading it from the registry).
I scanned the newsgroup, and I found that someone had a similar behaviour with Mcafee
Vshield, but there was no solution there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Uzi
