Diane,

First, it depends on what is available in your area. Both DSL and Cable are
often referred to as "broadband". In general, cable is faster and DSL less
expensive. Often, DSL can be purchased in different download speed
increments, with slower speeds costing less. Cable is often one speed fits
all, so you pay full price. Perhaps if you can provide some more
information, such as: Do you currently subscribe to cable and do they offer
broadband? Does you phone company offer DSL? Can you get a package deal from
either that will give you a better price? Are you in an urban, suburban or
rural area? Do you need the fastest speed or would an nice incremental
increase satisfy your needs? I have heard that DSL companies sometimes
require a year contract. At least with Comcast, I can cancel at any time.

I basically had a choice of Qwest DSL or Comcast Cable. I chose Comcast for
the higher speed. I have heard horror stories of Comcast outages and bad
service, but have not had a problem in 3 months (knock on wood!).

Either will be a gigantic leap upward from dialup. Be forwarned: Once you've
experienced broadband for several weeks, you'll never want to return to
dialup.
