There are a number of reasons why her computer could be so slow. She may
have too many programs running in the background. She should check to see
what is in her Startup. Also, even though she uses Ad-aware, there are a
number of spyware programs that Ad-aware might not catch. She should use
Spybot as well.

Office 2000 is not an operating system, I am thinking maybe you meant
Windows 2000?
Office 2000 consists of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and
depending on which version, may include Publisher and/or other Office apps.

Windows 2000 is primarily for a business enviornment and is built on theNT
kernal. One more thing, Windows ME came out after Windows 2000 and cannot be
upgraded to Windows 2000. If she wants Windows 2000, she will have to get
the full install package, not the upgrade.
Windows 2000 would run on the system she has. (That is a small hard drive!)

One option is toinstall Windows SE (full install), format the drive after
backing up any data onto removeable media that she wants to keep. Office
2000 will run ok on Windows 98SE.

Windows XP would run ok on this computer, but the hard drive space could be
a problem if she wants to install and run very many programs. If she decides
to go to Windows XP, she needs to do a clean install so as to not bring any
spyware problems to XP.

Subject: [PCSOFT] Office 2,000 requirements

My daughter's computer is VERY slow. She has the same dial-up service
that I do and a similar computer, but hers is MUCH slower than mine on
line. It's hardly worth having at all. She has the same virus
protection I do - NAV 2004 and used Ad-aware routinely. Any suggestions
about what could be the problem? The info on it follows, because she is
thinking of installing Office 2,000, if possible, but would just as soon
fix the Windows ME system she has, if you have any suggestions.

What are the minimum hardware requirements for installing and running
Office 2,000? Would it run on a Gateway machine with a 950 AMD Athalon
processor with a 32 kb cache and a 256 kb secondary cache, with 192 megs
of RAM and a 9.98 Gig hard drive?

If so, would you just install it right over the top of a Windows ME OS,
with the Office 2,000 CD?

If it won't take Office 2,000, would it take Windows 98SE?
