Anne, you may find that the fix and patch will need to be installed in Safe Mode.  Hitting F8 on the reboot should get into the mode.

  An elder in my family has a machine that is infected with the Blaster; she's hardly computer literate, lives isolated as far as on-site computer help is concerned.

  I don't have a clue as to how to advise her how to disinfect her computer because of the shutdown/reboot feature of the virus.  How do you activate a patch or a systems check with your AVP when the pc continually shuts down and reboots?
