Ahmed,
Cloudscape, a 100% pure Java DBMS is available for free from
http://www/cloudscape.com/ and is also bundled with the various versions
of the J2EE SDK available from http://java.sun.com/j2ee/. It supports
the SQL-92 and JDBC standards and is fully featured, with transaction
support and row-level locking. The documentation presents performance
results for up to 350 users.
I am using a Windows distrubution but I believe they have a UNIX/Linux
distrubution as well.
