I am running a Pentium IV machine with Windows XP home. When I first
started it up this morning everything was working well. A couple of hours
later when I returned, it would not "wake up". (I always leave it on all
day and it "goes to sleep" and wakes up when the mouse is moved) Nothing I
tried would work so I reset it. At this point windows failed to load and I
got a blue screen that said that a problem had been detected and windows
had been shut down to prevent damage to the computer. The error stated
was "unmountable_boot_volume". I went into the advanced startup option
screen and tried to reboot in safe mode as well as to use the last known
good configuration. Neither of these worked. I tried each of the other
choices as well and always ended up at the same blue screen of death. I
use Norton antivirus and the virus definitions are up to date.
The only new software to be installed is "Hoyle Puzzle Games" that I
installed 2 days ago. It seemed to be running with no problems. I also
installed a new printer (Epson C62) a week ago with no problems.
I have always received excellent advice on the few times that I have needed
to ask for help and I've learned a lot from the various posts on the
list. I hope one of you may have an answer to this problem.
