I have to thank Dave and Patt Nager for their suggestion; but unfortunately I do not have an XP install disk because I bought my computer second hand.
Thanks to Don Penlington. I used one of his ten suggestions: System restore which worked very well. I found my old computer again and IE is fast and responds now. Thanks Don. My regards to all: Ben.
