Hello Brenda,

In addition to the excellent suggestions submitted so far, I'd like to add
my 2¢ worth. First, it's unfortunate that your friend abused your generosity
by using the borrowed laptop for other than the intended purpose. It would
be good practice to not loan a personal item, such as a computer, with any
trace of personal information on it. It may seem impractical to take the
time and trouble to perform a clean install of the operating system when a
friend wants to borrow it 'right now', but that's better than suffering the
possible consequences. Perhaps an offer to allow them to use it in your
presence, or simply refusing the loan, is the solution. A friend would
understand either way. Hindsight... enough said on that.

If the "kbkd" account is your primary account and the one you are getting
the Spam with, check with Comcast on the option of changing the user name.
That may not be possible without closing the account and opening another
one. If you can't do that, use or create an additional user name (e-mail
address) to be associated with your account. Inform all your correspondents
of the change and begin using it as your primary e-mail address.

In addition to a new e-mail address, I recommend you implement other
measures to counter Spam. Some have been suggested already. Here is a method
I found in a Lockergnome newsletter... adding the word "SPAM" as part of
your user name in your e-mail address (check my address on this one). It
works. I've had one Yahoo account since sometime in the nineties that I quit
using years ago. As of a few minutes ago, the Inbox contained 19,591
e-mails, 58% of the 1 GB allotted, and it continues to increase. Last
November I created a new account (svenswanson_spam) and right now the Inbox
is empty. That tells me it works. You can check the article here:

I use and highly recommend MailWasher. It is very effective in dealing with
Spam and I wouldn't be without it. You can read about it and get the free
version here:

The bottom line is... no Spam makes it to my computer. The closest thing to
Spam I get is an occasional e-mail from Yahoo or Excite promoting something
of theirs and I usually, out of spite, bounce it with MailWasher because I
didn't give them a contact address for that purpose. Here are links for more
information that you may find useful. Good luck:

Subject: [PCSOFT] XXX spam

A friend has been using an old laptop of mine. On my new laptop, I started
getting XXX spam--30% of my emails. I hadn't done anything different, but I
told my friend about it and he said, ooops, maybe it's because he'd visited
gay porn sites.

I don't know if what he does on one computer through IE and his yahoo mail
program would give me this wonderful gift of offers to.....you can guess the
offers. Anyway, can this happen?
