In most cases, the problem is not with you or your software. Many of the
problems you describe are created by the person (or software) sending the
message. As an example, when a message is forwarded, some software will
perform the equivalent of putting the message into a new envelope, then
the next person does the same thing when they forward the message again.
So when you receive it, you end up with an envelope inside an envelope
inside an envelope. AOL's mail program does this, as well as other
software.
