Open Explorer, from the Menu Bar select Tools\Folder Options. On the View
Tab pull down the scroll bar and you will see some check boxes there. Left
click the mouse on the check box entitled "Remember each folder's view
settings" to have it checked. Now, on the menu bar of the Explorer select
View\Status bar. The next time you open explorer the status bar should
appear.
